Infrastructure & Cities

Infrastructure is built over decades and reported on every month. A transport or utility program approved on one cost estimate is tracked in another, asset condition sits in a maintenance system, and an urban regeneration scheme draws on several funds that each want their own report. Boards, regulators and public funders then ask questions that need all of it. We connect those records so cost, schedule, condition and funding are reported from one source. We have not yet published an engagement in this sector.

Market context

Business challenges

  1. 01

    Capital programs reported from spreadsheets

Budget, commitment, forecast and actual spend per scheme are assembled from contractor valuations and the finance system. Variances surface at quarter end, after the money is committed.

  2. 02

Asset records that do not join

Asset registers, maintenance histories and capital plans often use different identifiers for the same bridge, pumping station or depot. Condition cannot be linked to spend, so renewal decisions rest on age alone.

  3. 03

    Funding conditions tracked by hand

Transport and urban development schemes are often funded from several sources, each with its own milestones, eligible costs and claim deadlines. When those conditions live in funding letters, a missed milestone can delay a drawdown or put the money at risk.

  4. 04

    Handover data that arrives incomplete

When a scheme moves from construction to operation, as-built records, asset data and warranties often arrive late or in formats the operator's systems cannot load. Maintenance then starts from an incomplete register.

  5. 05

    One program, many report formats

Regulators, public funders, boards and partner authorities each want the same program in a different format, and each pack is rebuilt from exports by the same small team.

Where the opportunity sits

Cost to complete refreshed from source

Linking contractor valuations, commitments and the ledger to each scheme gives a cost-to-complete figure that updates with every valuation.

One asset identifier across systems

Matching the asset register, maintenance records and capital plan on a shared identifier makes condition, maintenance spend and renewal timing comparable across the network.

Funding milestones held as a schedule

Extracting milestones, eligible cost rules and claim dates from funding agreements into a maintained register, with reminders to a named owner, turns funding conditions into a dated work list.

Handover data checked before acceptance

Defining the asset data an operator needs and checking contractor submissions against it before handover gives the maintenance team a complete register from the first day of operation.

How we approach it

We start read-only with the finance system, the program tracker, the asset register and maintenance system, and the funding agreements and claim records. We trace one scheme from approval to final account, or one asset from handover to its latest maintenance job, and note where data is re-entered or reconciled by hand. Findings become a prioritised task list, each item with an owner and an acceptance check. If the client wants us to build, the same team delivers the integrations, reports and registers, documented and left in the client's own accounts. Engineering, surveying, planning consent, transport modelling, network operation, building safety and design stay with qualified professionals. Property sales and development marketing are covered on our Real Estate & Property Development page.

How our experience is evidenced

No anonymised engagement with infrastructure owners, transport or utility programs or city bodies is published. This page describes our approach and the capabilities we would apply: capital program and financial reporting, asset data integration and process automation, as we use them in other sectors.

Questions executives ask

Have you worked with infrastructure owners or city bodies?

We have not published an anonymised engagement in this sector. A proposal would state which parts of the work we have done in other sectors and which would be new.

Do you provide engineering, surveys or project management?

No. Engineering, surveying, transport modelling and site project management stay with qualified firms. We work on the data and reporting around them: program cost, funding conditions, asset records and the integrations between those systems.

Can you work with BIM or digital twin platforms?

Where the platform offers an export or API that your licence allows us to use, we can join its asset identifiers to finance and maintenance records. We do not author design models or sell twin platforms.

How would you show whether the work helped?

Each task carries an acceptance check agreed before work starts, such as the working days needed to produce the quarterly program report or the share of assets matched across systems. We report the measured figure, and say so when there is not yet enough data to read.
