Corporate Strategy

A corporate strategy is a short list of decisions, each with an owner, the capital it needs and the measure that will judge it. We write that list from the records and help carry it out.

Questions we help answer

What we do

  • Strategic diagnosis

Contribution by business unit, market, product and channel rebuilt from the ledger and the order system, with the shared costs allocated on stated rules and every unreconciled figure listed.

  • Choices and stop list

A small number of decisions on where to compete and how, with the activities to wind down written alongside them so the plan is funded from inside the business.

  • Decision log and program

Each decision recorded with its owner, its dependencies, the system changes it needs and the evidence that will close it, held in a task system the leadership team can see.

  • Board and investor version

A shorter document for the board that keeps the figures and their sources and drops the working, so the case can be read in one sitting.

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Rebuild the baseline

We take read-only access to the ledger, order system and reporting pack and reconcile them. The diagnosis records the date range and source of every figure.

  2. 02

    Argue the options on contribution

Options are compared on contribution and the capital they require, and each one names the assumption that would have to be true for it to work.

  3. 03

    Carry it into the operation

The same team builds the reporting and system changes the decisions depend on, with partners added for specialist work, and reviews progress against the original baseline.

How an engagement with THEFOCUS starts

A first conversation is about your situation. If there is a fit, we propose a scoped diagnostic with a fixed deliverable before any larger commitment.

  1. 01

    A working conversation

Forty-five minutes with the person who would lead the work. We ask about the decision, the systems behind it and the deadline.

  2. 02

    A scoped diagnostic

Read-only access, a fixed timeframe and a written finding: what the records show, what it costs and what to change first.

  3. 03

A plan you can act on

Changes, owners, measures and exclusions in writing. The same team then builds and measures, or hands over cleanly.

One accountable team
The people who diagnose also build the systems and measure the result.
Partners chosen per problem
Independent specialists join for the parts that need them, under one contract.
Records before dashboards
Orders, ledgers and logs are reconciled before any recommendation depends on them.

Questions executives ask

How is this different from a strategy away-day?

An away-day works from the figures already in the room. We reconcile those figures first, so the choices made afterwards rest on numbers the finance team can trace and the board can hold people to.

Who needs to be involved from our side?

The chief executive or owner, the finance lead and whoever runs the main commercial and operational systems. We ask for read-only access first and only request write access once a plan is approved.
